Press ReleasesTeraRecon Introduces the ‘PreXion 3D’ Dental CBCT Scanner San Mateo, CA--February 28, 07: TeraRecon (www.terarecon.com), a leader in advanced imaging processing technology and solutions, announced it will distribute the recently FDA 510(k)-cleared, small footprint, seated PreXion 3D Cone Beam Dental CT (CBCT) scanner for implantology imaging applications. “The elegantly-designed PreXion 3D Dental CBCT scanner delivers a high-resolution volumetric acquisition offering more projections per 360 degree rotation than published specifications from iCAT, Newtom, Sirona, PlanMeca, and Iluma thereby providing more precise imaging,” said Sabine Nahme, TeraRecon Director of Sales, Dental CT. The PreXion 3D scanner reconstructs images to industry-standard DICOM format for compatibility with a variety of 3rd party surgical implant planning software packages including SimPlant and Implant Logic. The system features image processing powered by the company’s XTrillion processor, enabling image reconstruction to be completed in standard mode at 30 seconds using 512 X-ray projections and 90 seconds in high-resolution mode using 1,024 projections. Affordably priced, the PreXion 3D scanner is designed for dental offices that seek to perform in-office surgical implant procedures. This state-of-the-art scanner features an optimum balance between image resolution and field of view for implantology applications, and a flat panel image acquisition system capable of acquiring up to 1,024 high-resolution projection images per rotation. The console comes equipped with TeraRecon’s world-leading real-time 3D volume rendering visualization as standard. Company analysis suggests that the market for dental CBCT for planning of dental implant procedures is rapidly growing, with the number of installed dental CBCT scanners in the U.S. alone expected to double within the next two years among the thousands of dentists performing implants. Thereafter, and in the longer term, continued rapid growth is expected as CBCT adoption spreads to the wider U.S. market of over 100,000 dental practitioners as a highly desirable alternative to traditional dental X-ray techniques which have remained substantially unchanged for several decades.
