TeraRecon and Commissure, Inc. Partner to Enable Enterprise-Wide Workflow Orchestration

San Mateo, CA--October 30, 2006: TeraRecon, Inc. and Commissure, Inc. announced a partnership to integrate and deliver seamless workflow orchestration leveraging advanced visualization tools independent of the combination of modalities, RIS and PACS deployed in a given institution. Commissure's RadWhere™ Suite drives workflow by presenting a consolidated worklist, launching an
appropriate viewer, and collecting the results back to the diagnostic report. This integrated workflow solution overcomes the incompatibilities between the disparate systems typically present in an imaging facility or across multiple RIS/HIS reading environments. The companies’ partnership will provide support for the AquariusNET thin-client as the common viewing tool for volumetric examinations when AquariusNET is available in an institution. This independent workflow solution provides healthcare facilities with seamless access to advanced visualization and patient management tools through a single, powerful visualization, reporting and workflow platform.

Commissure works in concert with AquariusNET to distribute advanced visualization coupled with a comprehensive patient management and reading environment for images with 3D capabilities. Commissure integrates the patient history, order status, status of priors, and structured reporting and distributes the consolidated results into a single worklist. It augments image and patient data by providing access and hyperlinks to saved scenes, priors and reports.

TeraRecon pioneered the concept of client-server 3D with AquariusNET, a powerful 3D image processing server that is equal to the challenge of managing 64-slice CT & MR data by putting advanced 3D tools in the hands of physicians across the healthcare enterprise using 2 standard PCs. Commissure’s LEXIMER NLU provides structured content from indications and prior studies to enable intelligent, advanced visualization presentation states. "I envision such an innovative platform to dramatically improve departmental throughput while delivering ground-breaking, enterprise-wide, interactive multimedia report distribution" says Michael Mardini, CEO and President, Commissure Inc.

TeraRecon's COO and executive vice president Robert Taylor stated "It is inevitable that a medical imaging enterprise wishing to offer the highest standard of care will need to access a wide variety of technologies and products from a portfolio of 'best-in-class' providers. We have experienced this first-hand as we have pioneered enterprise-wide advanced visualization to complement existing PACS tools and to help physicians and patients truly realize the potential benefits of modern MDCT and MR. However this need to access disparate systems inevitably causes a workflow challenge when there is no one effective common standard all the systems have followed to allow a truly seamless workflow integration. Traditionally, the imaging professional has had to accept less effective tools and moderate integration, or poorer integration and more powerful diagnostic tools, a compromise that is really not satisfactory for either the patient or physician.

TeraRecon has striven over the last several years to achieve a good suite of PACS and RIS integrations, allowing us to become a part of the existing workflow in almost all institutions, but Commissure takes this even further, embracing the entire workflow, not just from an imaging point of view, but encompassing ordering, diagnostic review, report generation, and image distribution, into a unified workflow all orchestrated by one product suite which becomes the primary point of interaction for the physician and then leverages the best tools for any given task. For TeraRecon, there was no
hesitation to deploy the engineering resource necessary to provide our products with integration to Commissure's RadWhere. Clearly, when an enterprise has the Commissure solution for managing the workflow, we want to make sure that our best-in-class solution for enterprise-wide 3D and advanced imaging is intuitively integrated and invoked whenever it can be best applied for the benefit of physicians and patients alike."
