TeraRecon, Helical Systems, and IBM announce Petroleum Industry Data Management Solution

San Mateo, CA--October 9, 2003: TeraRecon, Helical Systems, and IBM today announced they would be presenting their comprehensive desktop solution for the management, processing and visualization of massive multi-dimensional seismic datasets at SEG/Dallas 2003 in the TeraRecon booth #655.

The Petroleum Exploration and Production (E&P) Industry has long awaited a method of quickly and effectively analyzing large amounts of data on economical desktop computers. Now, with Helical's leading edge multidimensional software running on IBM's advanced workstation driven by TeraRecon's high performance real-time visualization hardware, extremely large seismic datasets can be managed, visualized, analyzed, fused and archived more quickly and economically. This combination of hardware, software, integration, service and support provides the E&P user with breakthrough improvements in price and performance.

Using Helical's HH Archive, a reliable long-term distributed data warehouse designed to handle massive multi-dimensional datasets, connected to an RDBMS such as DB2, this unique capability will provide a comprehensive 64-bit Linux or MS desktop solution for processing and managing virtually limitless volumes of data with no bottlenecks.

IBM IntelliStation workstations are uniquely suited to serve as the foundation for any compute-intensive visualization solution such as this. These workstations derive their record setting performance and reliability from a heritage of engineering excellence that spans several decades, and provide the ability to run the world's leading engineering, animation and analysis applications from a heritage of teamwork with companies both large and small, such as TeraRecon and Helical.

TeraRecon's patented VolumePro 1000 is a significant technological advance in the area of 3D computer graphics, achieving unsurpassed levels of performance and functionality. Extraordinary image quality is achieved via XY image order rendering and powerful gradient based lighting calculations. Real-time interaction with enormous volume datasets is made possible via dedicated on-board high-speed memory. Integrated into the IntelliStation, VolumePro supports visualization of areas-of-interest comprising as much as 6 GB of actual volume data.

IBM is the world's largest information technology company, with 80 years of leadership in helping businesses innovate. IBM Sales & Distribution, which supports more than a dozen key industries worldwide, works with companies of all sizes around the world to deploy the full range of IBM technologies.
