TeraRecon launches AquariusBLUE, delivering cost-effective real time 3D

San Mateo, CA--July 26, 2002: TeraRecon announced immediate availability of AquariusBLUE workstation, the newest member of its Aquarius end-user product family designed to address the imaging needs of radiology departments seeking optimum cost / performance for advanced 2D review, 3D and 4D post processing for use with existing CT or MR scanners. Other modalities supported include CR / DR and Angiography studies. TeraRecon's high-end Aquarius Workstation and AquariusBLUE are targeted at distinctly different market segments.

Aquarius Workstation is TeraRecon's premier workstation used extensively in the high performance diagnostic imaging market segment requiring the most advanced imaging features for the largest datasets, the broadest range of integrated clinical applications, and a full complement of advanced segmentation, editing, and analysis tools. AquariusBLUE is aimed at the cost sensitive radiology market segment where physicians require real time performance, superior image quality for interactive 2D softcopy review and advanced 3D, 4D post processing image reconstruction. AquariusBLUE is designed with simplicity of use and value in mind. Aquarius Workstation and AquariusBLUE are both powered by TeraRecon's real time 3D volume rendering VolumePro 1000 hardware solution offering unsurpassed image quality at real-time rendering speeds.

AquariusBLUE will be sold to imaging facilities and radiology suites that have single or dual detector CT or MR scanners or lower priced scanners, as an interactive clinician review station, as a secondary workstation, where advanced 2D and 3D softcopy review is desired at an attractive price point. Aquarius Blue lists for just $60,000. The system package includes a 17" SXGA TFT monitor and an on-site visit from a TeraRecon specialist during which installation and training will be completed. The first 90 days of telephone service support is included, with the option to purchase extended service available.

"TeraRecon has established its worldwide reputation with its high performance Aquarius Workstation and powerful AquariusNET streaming 3D enterprise server that sets the new standard for advanced image processing and performance," states Dr. Motoaki Saito MD, CEO of TeraRecon. "AquariusBLUE fully complements TeraRecon's advanced workstation line-up by offering real time performance, superior image quality for cost conscious users in the entry level market segment. These users are represented by the vast majority of community and county hospitals across the U.S. that require advanced 2D review, 3D post processing and no-compromise image quality for a budget price."

AquariusBLUE is thoughtfully designed for ease of use and streamlined user workflow based on an intuitive user interface. Radiologists and clinicians can load studies up to 900 slices in seconds and work in 2D and 3D at the same time. Tools are provided for fine rendering control of various image settings using 4 independent objects. A variety of preset templates are provided to assist the user in selecting the correct anatomical images. Visualization tools include the ability to slice/rotate, pan/zoom, window/level, crop, and manipulate interactive cut planes. Measurement tools are provided for regions of interest. Output to an MS Word document for printing is provided.

"To build on our reputation for the highest performance advanced processing workstations, we are pleased to announce an offering targeted at the more cost-conscious medical imaging professional," said Robert Taylor, Ph.D., chief operating officer of TeraRecon. "Through AquariusBLUE, we are able to offer professional, high performance, no-compromise volume rendering capability at a highly attractive price point. We are keeping costs to an absolute minimum by delivering a targeted set of functions, and streamlining the purchasing and support component of the package, hence transferring the benefit of this to the end-user through a more affordable pricing structure."

AquariusBLUE complements the existing Aquarius end-user product line, which consists of the high-end Aquarius Workstation and the AquariusNET enterprise 3D server. AquariusBLUE supports slab MIP, 3D Multi-Planar Reformats (MPR), and multi-modality, side-by-side review in both 2D and 3D.
