TeraRecon introduces the Personal
Digital Light Box for AquariusNET at SCAR '02
San Mateo, CA--May
2, 2002: TeraRecon
announced a revolutionary new display called
the "Personal Digital Light Box" (PDLB) at the Society for Computer
Applications in Radiology (SCAR) exhibition in Cleveland, OH. Conceived
by TeraRecon's CEO, radiologist Motoaki Saito, M.D., the PDLB consists
of multiple ultra-thin 15-inch LCD panels, each with 3 million pixels,
all driven by a single PC platform. The PDLB may be configured with
2, 4, or 8 panels, equating to 6 million, 12 million and 24 million
pixels of color resolution respectively. PDLB technology offers crisp,
bright, and high-resolution display for 2D and 3D CT or MR softcopy
diagnostic review.
The Personal Digital Light Box is the latest
innovative solution offered by TeraRecon as a display option for its
AquariusNET 3D enterprise server. AquariusNET streams 2D and 3D to
multiple networked thin clients PCs concurrently across the healthcare
enterprise. The PDLB technology is the realization of a long awaited
need by radiologists and clinician's for no-compromise viewing on
their personal desktops.
"AquariusNET is a network processor for
medical imaging which uses streaming technology to provide high-performance
softcopy review with integrated 3D capability. As such, it represents
a powerful step forward in terms of efficient distribution of the
huge datasets produced by today's imaging modalities, combined with
the advanced review tools necessary to efficiently perform diagnostic
reading of these studies with potentially thousands of images," said
Robert Taylor, Ph.D., TeraRecon's COO. "Due to its intelligent design,
the system also provides for efficient delivery of interactive reports
to clinicians with live, embedded images, enriching radiology's end
product considerably. With the advent of the PDLB, AquariusNET can
now efficiently and cost-effectively bring this advanced image processing
capability to every radiologist's desk, or to any light-box site in
today's healthcare enterprise. We see the PDLB as the first digital
equivalent to the light box which really provides a similar experience
in terms of form-factor and simultaneous display of multiple images.
Combined with AquariusNET, it holds great promise for extending the
reach of digital image management, and represents the most recent
milestone in TeraRecon's mission to break down conventional barriers
to productivity."
AquariusNET makes advanced image review
available throughout the enterprise through installation of a simple
client application on any everyday desktop or notebook PC. Even thousand-slice
studies can be accessed in just seconds as 2D and 3D images are streamed
on demand across the network.
The PDLB is offered in several form factors
compatible with desktop use or wall mounting. Each 15 inch panel can
display CT or MR images at native 512 x 512 resolution in a 4x3 hanging
protocol, with various other display formats available. The company
expects the PDLB to be available in production quantities starting
in Q3 2002 at a price point highly competitive with current flat panel
offerings.
