Press ReleasesTeraRecon, Massachusetts General Hospital sign agreement for advanced 3D imaging San Mateo, CA--November 25, 2002: TeraRecon announced it has signed an agreement with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH-Boston, MA) to deploy its advanced 3D Aquarius Workstation and AquariusNET 3D enterprise image server. MGH is utilizing TeraRecon's Aquarius Workstation for 2D review and reconstruction of 3D studies. MGH plans to deploy TeraRecon's AquariusNET server to deliver interactive 3D imaging capabilities beyond the radiology department, to clinicians' desktop PCs throughout the hospital, wherever they need to visualize and interact with large imaging studies acquired from multi-detector CT and MR scanners. Previously MGH has delivered snapshot views of medical source images or 3D reconstructions and reformatted views that were processed on diagnostic workstations along with a written report to the referring physicians. AquariusNET makes advanced image review available throughout the enterprise through installation of a simple client application on any everyday desktop or notebook PC. Even thousand-slice studies can be accessed in just seconds as 2D and 3D images are streamed on demand across the network. "This kind of 3D model can be interactively manipulated by the clinician remotely," states Dr. Gordon J. Harris, Director, MGH 3D Imaging Service and Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. "It does not lock our physicians into pre-defined views of the pathology but allows them to continue to interact with the data to provide a better understanding when planning therapeutic procedures and patient treatment. As the number of slices from the scanners increase, viewing and manipulating image data in 3D is not just clinically useful, but the only way to manage and thoroughly interpret the enormity of information". "By partnering with MGH with the installation of Aquarius Workstation and AquariusNET server, TeraRecon's products will be utilized by one of the leading medical institutions in the United States. AquariusNET represents a powerful step forward in terms of efficient distribution of the huge datasets produced by today's imaging modalities, combined with the advanced review tools necessary to bring more confidence in diagnosis to those reading these studies" states Dr. Robert Taylor, COO of TeraRecon. "Our collaboration with MGH will enhance clinical interactions with radiologists with the goal of improving patient outcomes and patient care." About TeraRecon, Inc. Contact:
