TeraRecon TeraRecon launches unique family of real-time 3D visualization products for geoscience applications

San Mateo, CA--September 9, 2001: TeraRecon launches unique family of real time 3D visualization products for Geoscience applications.

  • VolumePro® 1000 - Real time 3D Volume Rendering Accelerator for PCs and Workstations
  • VolumePro® NET - Streaming Interactive 3D Image Server for Interpretation Workgroups
  • VolumePro® Visualization Platform - Custom High-End Interpretation Platforms for OEMs
TeraRecon announced the launch of three powerful new imaging products for the Geoscience community, based on its newest patented VolumePro® processor technology at SEG, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. These products dramatically advance the state of the art in performance, image quality, and integration of 3D visualization systems. VolumePro® technology provides the fastest and most affordable imaging solution for real time interpretation on large seismic volumes for individual desktop workstations, interpretation workgroups, and high-performance visualization platforms for desk-side and visualization center applications.

VolumePro® 1000 is TeraRecon's second-generation real time 3D volume rendering hardware accelerator for PCs and UNIX workstations. The VolumePro® 1000 is a significant technological advance in 3D computer graphics and provides a level of functionality never before available to the geoscientist. For the first time in real time, voxels and surface geometries are seamlessly integrated together. VolumePro® 1000 provides unsurpassed performance for large data sets, as VolumePro® 1000 stores and processes up to 2GB of volume data on a single PCI board. Targeted to OEMs and system integrators, the platform agility of VolumePro® allows it to be easily integrated into any PC or UNIX system, including Windows, Solaris™, Linux, HP UNIX, and IRIX.

TeraRecon is also introducing VolumePro® NET, an ideal streaming 3D-server solution for networked interpretation workgroups. VolumePro® NET provides an affordable, shared resource for visualizing and interpreting large seismic data sets. Together with VolumePro® 1000, it provides spectrum of options for adding performance acceleration to interpretation computing. Rather than investing in additional, expensive 3D interpretation workstations, VolumePro® NET can provide high performance and functionality to low power or older workstation or even laptop computers.

VolumePro® NET's patented technology concentrates powerful 3D and 4D processing capability in a high-performance server equipped with multiple VolumePro® real time volume rendering boards. This enables multiple, simultaneous, remote users to run high performance visualization applications by providing streaming screen updates to the clients on the network. Even simple desktop PCs can be used to review and manipulate images of up to 8GB, since the requisite memory and processing power are provided by the server, not the client.

The VolumePro® Visualization Platform is the third product introduction at SEG from TeraRecon. It is a custom high-end interpretation platform targeted to OEMs. It can be scaled to handle the most demanding datasets for interpreting basin-wide data. VolumePro® Visualization Platform can be scaled to meet the needs of high-end workgroups, desk side interpretation stations, and visualization center applications. Platform data capacity ranges from 8GB to 32GB and beyond.

"Successful exploration and production of hydrocarbons depends on the ability to understand and interpret large volumes of subsurface data rapidly," states Jamie Jacobs, Executive VP of TeraRecon's VolumePro® Division, based in Concord, MA. "These advanced product announcements based on VolumePro® technology represents a tremendous breakthrough in delivering real time performance, unsurpassed image quality, and affordability to standard PC and UNIX workstations for the geoscience community."
